The term “Natural Gemstone” refers to a mineral of beauty, rarity and
durability; have specific chemical, optical and physical properties
and have grown naturally in the earth's crust. For example: ruby,
sapphire, emerald, diamond, garnet, etc.
"Synthetic gemstones"
refers to man-made materials with chemical, optical and physical
properties similar to those of the respective natural gemstones. For
example, synthetic Ruby has all the same properties as its natural
counterpart.
A synthetic substance is a man-made product that has the same optical, physical and chemical properties as its natural substance, while glass (natural or artificial) has its own characteristics and is only capable of mimics any natural gemstone and not its properties
The beauty or quality of a stone is judged by the 4C i.e. color, clarity, cut and carat weight. Colors are evaluated using Hue (pure spectral color), Tone (lightness or darkness) and Saturation (intensity), under appropriate lighting conditions. Transparency is assessed by the presence or absence of impurities in terms of their size, location, color and number. Evaluating the cut in relation to shape, cut style, proportions, symmetry, and finish affects the overall shine. Carat weight refers to the size of the stone, the higher the size, the higher the price.
Diamonds (and only diamonds) can be rated F and IF. This means "flawless" (no impurities or imperfections visible at 10x magnification) and "internally flawless" (same as perfect but may have visible imperfections). 10x magnification).
